The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a significant traditional Chinese holiday commemorating the life and death of Qu Yuan, a famous poet and minister in ancient China. It is observed on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, which usually falls in late May or June on the Gregorian calendar. This year, the Dragon Boat Festival falls on June 10th (Monday), and the Chinese government has declared a three-day public holiday from Saturday (June 8) to Monday (June 10) to allow citizens to celebrate and honor this special occasion.
The customs and traditions associated with the Dragon Boat Festival differ across various regions. During this festival, people engage in a variety of activities, which may include participating in lively dragon boat races, indulging in the delicious traditional food zongzi, and hanging fragrant incense sachets. Dragon boat racing, also known as dragon boat racing, is an ancient and competitive water sport that not only tests the physical strength, rowing skills, and teamwork of participants but also serves as a commemoration of the life and death of Qu Yuan, an ancient Chinese poet and statesman. Zongzi, a traditional food prepared from glutinous rice, takes the shape of a boat to symbolize the river where Qu Yuan tragically drowned himself. The custom of hanging sachets, filled with various spices and aromatic herbs, evolved as a means to ward off evil spirits and protect against diseases by wearing these fragrant bags around the body.
During the Dragon Boat Festival, Jinyuan Optoelectronics organized employees and their families to participate in zongzi making activities, as well as to watch local dragon boat races and a series of other colorful events.
